Join Us For International Science Center and Science Museum Day!

In partnership with UNESCO and the International Council of Museums, science museums all over the world will celebrate this year's World Science Day for Peace and Development on November 10th, with the very first International Science Center and Science Museum Day (ISCSMD).

The participating institutions, which include The Mind Museum, will be offering activities that help in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals declared by the United Nations for 2030. These activities will be presented at the Science Center World Summit in Tokyo in 2017.

Of the 17 goals, The Mind Museum's programs focus on three: quality education and teacher training, sustainable cities and communities, and life below water.

Museums, as venues for informal education, can help to supplement formal schooling. With the help of sponsor organizations, a training program for public school science teachers titled Science Wonder Workshops: From Duty to Wonder was held in the museum and in different provinces in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Based on the evaluation surveys, 300 teachers who had undergone the workshops displayed newfound confidence in teaching and communicating science. More workshops in the provinces are planned for the coming months.

The museum also promotes sustainable communities with its Cafe Scientifique lecture sessions on sustainability, such as On Behalf of the Wild, and What On Earth Are We Doing?, held in partnership with conservation organizations like WWF-Philippines, and its major exhibition, Future Cities, on renewable energy sources.

The Museum also promotes the importance of marine biodiversity with its traveling exhibition, A Glass of the Sea

With support from USAID, this exhibition highlights the beauty of the Verde Island Passage, one of the most diverse marine environments on the planet, and the research conducted there by the California Academy of Sciences.

Since its opening in July 2015, the AGOS exhibition has traveled to various parts of the country, and has been visited by over 50,000 people.
